Things Are Looking Up!!

I have been trying to think of an adequate word to describe my feelings yesterday when I received some much waited news and all I could come up with is WOWZERS!  A favorite word of mine at the moment!  Anyhow, lets start at the beginning of my day yesterday.

After yet another sleepless night I packed my bag ready for my trip to hospital to have my Peritoneal Dialysis Catheter inserted (for those dorks out there like me who likes to know the proper medical term this is a Tenchkoff Catheter!)

I have never experienced a general anesthetic before so all this is very new to me!  However, when I arrived at the hospital I had the welcomed surprise that a friend of mine Michelle was working in the ward where I was to be looked after, she put me at ease straight away.

After going through endless forms, meeting the surgeon and anesthetist I had to put on the oh so fetching hospital gown and then make the walk to the operating theatres.  It was the strangest of feeling! I was chatting away to the anesthetist then I thought oh I've just closed my eyes or blinked lets carry on talking and it was over, I only knew that the operation had taken place due to the pain in my stomach area!  It must have been a very long blink!!

I had originally been told that I had to stay overnight so that my new tubes could be flushed out to ensure that they were working properly but luckily for me the hospital decided that this could be done yesterday and that I would be allowed home at 7pm!  Yay!!

After my dialysis nurse had been to see me my consultant popped in, this is when I got the fabulous news that my mum can definitely donate to me and that my transplant is taking place in the first week of February!  Whoop whoop!  They have always said January but I have no problems with the first week in February what so ever!!  On top of that, I am also at the top of the list if any of the other transplants can't go ahead in January. 

Finally nurse Trev came into the hospital after work and whisked me home to where mum and fish and chips was waiting for me!! 

So, although I'm very sore around my tummy, I am also one very happy girl today, things are back on track and my target of being fit and well again by Flora Day is once again in my sight ;-)

    Glad things are looking up and you can enjoy Christmas a little more, hope you get to dance the Flora again, I hope to make it down next year too so will doubly brilliant if I get to watch you dance honey xxxxx

How Quickly Has That Six Months Passed?

I haven't updated the blog for a few weeks as everything has been going to plan!  I had been feeling better and better everyday that passed.  My appointments at Derriford have been reduced to once a week and my date for transferring back to Treliske had been set. Significant Milestones & the World Transplant Games!

SIGNIFICANT MILESTONES! Another year has passed but this year with several significant milestones!    In August I reached the ripe old age of 40!  I have no idea how I got so old so very quick!  Where has the time gone!   In December I celebrated my 10th year working with/for Frugi  they started out as one of my clients when I was self employed and now I'm their full time Finance Director.  A job I absolutely love!  (Most days!!)   Earlier this month Trev and I celebrated 15 years together!  We have such a laugh all of the time, no day is ever dull!   Finally today is the fifth anniversary of my kidney transplant, an important day in my calendar.  Everyday I live without the need for dialysis is such a gift.    I am fit, healthy and live everyday to the full.  I am so very privileged and wouldn't be in this position without my mum, my donor.  Thank you mum.   Mum and I at the...

First visit to clinic and Anemia

Trev took time off work so that I would not be alone on my return home from hospital.  I had the best nights sleep back in my own bed!  I felt tired but no different to normal, it felt a little sureal that I had just discovered that I was going to be going through the most testing time of my life. On Thursday 9th September I had several appointments at the hospital.  The first was at the emergency eye clinic.  They told me that I had damage in three spots due to the high blood pressure but that would not be permanent damage.  This was a huge relief.  The thought of damaged eyesight scared me more than my kidney troubles.
