"The Last Supper" With My Friends

Thursday night my friend Sandra sent me a message asking if I would like to go to lunch today.  The plan was just to have a meet up before my operation.  This quickly snowballed from a few girls having lunch to twelve of us!

It was really lovely to see everybody today as in the last few months I have seen very little of everyone as when most people are just going out, exhaustion has usually hit me and I am already in bed!!

Anyway, here's a pic of the mutley crew this lunchtime:

After lunch, just before we were about to pay, Anita stood up, "oh no I thought"!!  However, Anita had written a poem for me!  It bought a tear to my eye!  I absolutely love it!!  Here is the poem:

FOR TRACY

You gave me a call – quite late at night,
Oh my gosh – you gave me a fright!
To say at your door, the Police had been knocking –
Your tests had come back…
And the results- they were shocking!
Pack up your bag, away you must whisk –
You have to leave NOW… you’re off to Treliske!

After many a test, and thorough check was done,
The Doc said ‘It’s your kidneys… you’ll need a new one’!

Then me and your Mum, went for some tests –
To try and find out, whose kidney is best?
They then chose your Mums, as her match was greater –
And you said to me ‘I might have yours later!’

You’ve spent many an hour on a hospital ward,
Test after test - you must’ve been bored!
Your attitude and strength, has sure seen you through –
You’re stubborn, and wilful,
But that’s what makes you!

Your ‘Blog’ has been a most interesting read,
Charting your journey – a long one, indeed.
The road to recovery, now lies ahead –
But still yet more time in a hospital bed.

You’ll be there on Tuesday – both you, and your Mum,
Feeling apprehensive, about what is to come.
But please do not worry, as I’m sure it’s all fine –
You‘ll soon be in Helston, and ‘down town’ to dine!

To me, you have been such a good friend –
I’ll be ‘over the moon’ when you’re ‘on the mend’.
We’ll be old in Helston – with our blue Mac’s to wear –
With more than a little grey in our hair!
We’ll look back at the times we have had,
With you as my friend -
I have been so glad…

And now, in conclusion – what remains to be said,
I finish my ditty (without going red),
I’m sure that I speak for the whole of the room,
When I say Tracy….

‘PLEASE GET WELL SOON!’

Thanks for today guys, it was lovely for you all to come out and treat me to lunch!  Next time we all go out, it'll be the old me with bags of energy and I'm going to hold you all to that idea of going to Raze The Roof!!

How Quickly Has That Six Months Passed?

I haven't updated the blog for a few weeks as everything has been going to plan!  I had been feeling better and better everyday that passed.  My appointments at Derriford have been reduced to once a week and my date for transferring back to Treliske had been set. However, this week I have literally been knocked off my feet!  Sunday evening I had a somewhat restless nights sleep and I had a tickle at the back of my throat.  Here we go I thought, my first cold since my transplant.  I had already been told that a cold would floor me now due to the immunosuppresant drugs, but I was not prepared in the slightest for how I have been feeling!! Monday I carried on as normal but Monday night I had no sleep whatsoever as I was coughing all night.  Tuesday all I managed to do was lie in the dark all day with my eyes closed.  Wednesday, after another sleepless night I called the hospital and was told to go to Derriford straight away (with my overnight bag packed...

Time Flys When You're Having Fun!!

Well here I am again letting you know that another year has passed since I had my transplant FOUR years ago! The difference this transplant has made to my life is enormous. Whilst on dialysis, although I carried on with my life, the fatigue meant I spent the majority of my free time in bed or with my feet up wrapped in loads of blankets with the heating on full as I could never warm up. Now life is unbelievable! In my last blog in August I was telling you the story about my success at the British Transplant Games.  Since then I have had the honor of being asked to represent Team GB in the World Transplant Games in Argentina which will take place in August this year!! I entered the British Transplant Games initially for two reasons, firstly to raise awareness of organ donation and that is still extremely important to me, so if you haven't done so already please sign up here  but don't forget to discuss your wishes with your loved ones. Secondly to get fit and heal...

Significant Milestones & the World Transplant Games!

SIGNIFICANT MILESTONES! Another year has passed but this year with several significant milestones!    In August I reached the ripe old age of 40!  I have no idea how I got so old so very quick!  Where has the time gone!   In December I celebrated my 10th year working with/for Frugi  they started out as one of my clients when I was self employed and now I'm their full time Finance Director.  A job I absolutely love!  (Most days!!)   Earlier this month Trev and I celebrated 15 years together!  We have such a laugh all of the time, no day is ever dull!   Finally today is the fifth anniversary of my kidney transplant, an important day in my calendar.  Everyday I live without the need for dialysis is such a gift.    I am fit, healthy and live everyday to the full.  I am so very privileged and wouldn't be in this position without my mum, my donor.  Thank you mum.   Mum and I at the...
